East Devon's New Community of Cranbrook now has over 1000 occupied homes
Work started at the end of June 2011 on Phase 1 of Cranbrook known as ‘Younghayes' and in that first year we saw the main road, roundabouts, footpaths, cycleways and low carbon district heating pipes all put in place.
The first primary school, St. Martins C of E Primary School, opened its door to pupils in September 2012 and the community 'multi-purpose' Younhayes Centre is now open for the community to use. The first of Cranbrook's residents moved in August 2012 there has been a steady flow of interested home hunters seven days a week since.
A new bus service for Cranbrook started at the end of May 2013 and work on the new Cranbrook railway station is underway.

1,120 homes will be built in the first phase of Cranbrook, at the end of September 2015 there are more than 1,000 homes occupied. Cranbrook welcomed the Sadler family as its 1000th householder, in October 2015.
The homes are being constructed by a number of different house builders and in a range of house types to meet the needs of local families.

Affordable Housing for Those with a Local Connection
There will be 199 social rented homes and 101 shared ownership properties (part buy/part rent) at Younghayes. These homes were available from the end of 2012.
65% of these homes will be allocated to applicants with a local connection to East Devon and 35% to applicants with a local connection to Exeter.
You must be registered with Devon Home Choice to bid for the homes for rent when they are advertised.

Affordable by Design for Those with a Local Connection
There will also be over 100 units of ‘affordable by design' housing. This is housing that is for sale below open market prices. To achieve lower house prices the homes will be smaller than the average size. For example a 3 bedroom house will have a floor area of 60 square metres, when the average 3 bedroom house is normally 75 square metres.
The affordable by design is an alternative option to the other ‘affordable housing' for rent and shared ownership.

Retail Space at Younghayes
There are seven retail units opposite the Younghayes Centre with a range of shops and businesses to serve the needs of the growing community. Work started in September 2014 and Cranbrook's first supermarket opened in September 2015. More shops will open once fitting out is complete, including a cafe, an estate agent, a charity shop, and takeaway food outlets.

Phase 2 of Cranbrook
The second phase of Cranbrook is underway, with the Cranbrook Education Campus which opened in September 2015. This is an 'all through' school which contains the second primary school, the first secondary school and community leisure facilities.
Cranbrook Education Campus offers 420 primary school places with early years provision and up to 1,000 secondary places within one development.
