The Workshops

Towards the end of 2012 East Devon District Council held a series of workshops to produce what are known as “Design Codes”, detailed specifications that will influence the way the town centre at Cranbrook is developed.

It is expected that as the focal point for the new community, the town centre will include public space for farmers markets and events, a residential community, a secondary school, shops, pubs, restaurants, hotels and health facilities.

The workshops were facilitated by leading independent specialists from Design Action Devon and Cornwall; their team includes experts in rural economics, market towns, and practitioners in less conventional methods for delivering growth.

Confirmation of a £20 million investment by MP Mark Prisk last year (December 2012) means that East Devon’s vision for Cranbrook’s town centre could now be delivered much sooner than expected.

East Devon District Council are required to have the Design Codes ready and waiting for when they receive the detailed planning applications for the town centre and the next phase of Cranbrook.
