Cranbrook’s Community Market re–launched as fortnightly event

Cranbrook’s Community Market has a new format - from Thursday 24 September 2015 it will be run every 2 weeks at the Younghayes Centre and will be organised by the stallholders themselves.

Jane Clements, a trader at Cranbrook Community Market said:“All the stallholders would like to thank our customers for their support and friendship over the past year, it has been greatly appreciated. We also applaud the hard work of the Community Helpers in Cranbrook (CHIC) for setting up and running the market during this period.

The market really brings the community together and acts as a focal point where people meet and chat.   It’s a valuable asset to the community of Cranbrook and surrounding villages, giving the opportunity to socialise, browse unique products on offer, chat to neighbours and make new friends. Because of its importance and because we enjoy meeting people there, the stallholders have come together to run the market in a fortnightly format on Thursday evenings.”

Jane added: “As an added incentive, each shopper will be given a numbered ticket, for the chance of winning a £10 voucher to be spent on goods available at the market.

We are looking forward to seeing you there – come along and support your community traders.”

Local Produce and Crafts

The market will complement Cranbrook’s first shop, the Southern Co-Operative which has just opened (18 September), by offering different products and services including fresh local meats; apple products, sweets and cakes all farmed and produced within a 10 mile radius and a variety of delicious pies.

Crafts from local people including beautiful handmade cards, sewing and decorative homeware items. Other luxuries include Avon cosmetics, high street and designer pre-loved clothing, hair accessories, hair braiding and jewellery. We are also visited by different charity stalls i.e. Hospiscare, Cystic Fibrosis and MacMillan Cancer.

Cranbrook Town Council Chairman Kevin Blakey added: “The traders and community groups who support the market bring a valued facility for local people.  It provides a range of local goods and artisan products not on offer in the new Co-op Store. I feel confident that the two can co-exist to produce a wider choice for Cranbrook residents."

Mark Williams, Chief Executive of East Devon District Council said: “I am pleased to support the new fortnightly market. The interaction with the stallholders and shoppers is an important part of belonging to the Cranbrook community. The market sells local, quality produce and I look forward to perusing what is on offer on this new fortnightly basis.”

The Market opens on every other Thursday evening from 5.30pm until 7pm. Forthcoming markets will take place on 8th and 22nd October, 5th and 19th November 2015.
