Flybe, based at Exeter International Airport, have built a state of the art multi-million pound training academy for the benefit of all staff and in doing so, helped to address the crucial need for skills development in the South West.  This is being achieved through the delivery of economically valuable industry and sector qualifications.

In addition to this, the £24 million training academy includes 26 classrooms, Flight Simulators and Cabin Crew door trainers, thereby creating an international training facility for the airline industry. Training in areas such as customer service are also available for non-aviation related companies. The training academy will also benefit from use of a new 4 star, 160-bedroom hotel which will be built alongside the site.

The Flybe Training Academy is designed and built to BREEAM ‘excellent' specification and will be a showcase for future developments.  It supports the delivery of industry recognised vocational qualifications including Cabin Crew NVQs (National Vocational Qualifications), Engineering Apprenticeships, Call Centre NVQs and Foundation Degrees.

The Academy enables the airline to take a lead in moving the government's Skills Agenda forward by delivering training and skills development to local companies in line with the South West Regional Development Agency (RDA) and the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) agendas.  This includes "over-training" for companies involved in the full spectrum of the sector such as delivering the Skills Shop facility for Exeter International Airport and other local companies.

Having received planning permission from East Devon District Council in 2009, Flybe received confirmation of a £4.3 million grant from the Learning and Skills Council; this in turn unlocked a further £2.8 million from the South West RDA.
