Growth Team Members Mean Business

Two members of the Exeter and East Devon Growth Point Team are busy working with the Exeter business community this month.

Exeter Business Awards

Fliss Morey, projects director of the Exeter and East Devon Growth Point, is sitting on the judging panel for thFliss Morey Projects Directore Express & Echo’s inaugural Business Awards. Shortlisting is now underway for the top contenders in each of the eight categories, the winner of which will be announced at a ceremony held on the 8 April.

The judging panel also includes: Kevin Butler, who recently retired as the Bank of England's South West agent; Harry Langley, managing director of South West Communications Group; Derek Phillips, vice-president of Exeter Chamber of Commerce; Hannah Ellis Murdock, director of the Really Good Recruitment Company; Andrew Blair, managing director of South West Media Group; and Express & Echo editor Marc Astley.

Talking to the Express & Echo, Fliss Morey said:

"As projects director of the Exeter & East Devon Growth Point, I am closely involved in the promotion of economic growth in this area, either through actively encouraging new employment opportunities or by supporting existing local businesses with their plans for future growth. I am therefore pleased to be able to participate in this event which recognises the success stories within the local business community and sends out a positive message to others about the economic potential of this area."

Chamber of Commerce

Meanwhile, Andy Wood, head of infrastructure and partnerships for the Exeter and East Devon Growth Point, will be the guest speaker at Exeter Chamber of Commerce lunch on Wednesday 23 February held at Exeter’s Rougemont Thistle hotel.

Andy will be updating members of the business community on the major strategic developments in the Growth Point area, including Cranbrook, Skypark and Exeter Science Park, and discussing opportunities for maximising the local economic benefits arising from these developments.

Renewable Energy Market Place

The Growth Point team are also encouraging local businesses to attend a new event to bring together the construction sector, the tourism industry, farmers and landowners, local authorities and housing associations with the south west’s sustainable energy sector to understand the opportunities and develop new business.

The event, Renewable Energy Market Place, organised by Regen SW is being held at Westpoint Exeter, 22 March 2011 from 9:30 - 18:00 and is a timely opportunity to find out more about the government’s new financial incentives for smaller-scale renewable energy installations, for more information visit www.regensw.co.uk
