Ping! arrives in Cranbrook

Cranbrook is the latest location to join the free street ping pong festival which sees table tennis tables popping up in remarkable and surprising places nationwide during the summer.

Exeter already has tables in places such as the Princesshay shopping centre, the Quay and the airport. Now Devon's newest town has been chosen to join the Ping! Party too.

Mitchell Bellham, local resident and organiser of Cranbrook's table tennis club said, “This is a fantastic opportunity for Cranbrook. It will be a focal point for the community to meet up and be social during the summer while keeping fit.”

The table is situated outside the Cranbrook Medical Centre and is free to use. No booking is necessary and all the equipment is provided.

Cranbrook almost missed out as finding a suitable location for the table proved difficult among all of the on-going building works. However, Mark Knight, Business Manager at the surgery came to the rescue and offered a great location for the table at the last minute.

"We were happy to help," said Mark. "Anything that encourages our patients to be active, fit and healthy has got to be a good thing."

Bringing Ping! to Cranbrook was a joint initiative between Exeter and East Devon Growth Point, Active Devon and Cranbrook table tennis club.

Since Ping! launched in London in 2010, it has been an overwhelming success, travelling to 18 other cities and engaging over 500,000 people to date.
